Silence - Original Mixed Media Portrait Painting
Silence is an original mixed media portrait painting by Ben Goymour exploring restraint, control, inner strength and the space between what is felt and what is shown.
The figure is presented with her eyes closed, surrounded by layered words and Japanese text that reinforce the central ideas within the piece. 静けさ means silence or stillness, while 強さ means strength. Alongside words such as calm, focus, control and inner strength, these elements become part of the meaning of the work rather than simply sitting on the surface.
Built through layers of paint, expressive brushwork, drips, marks and text, the painting moves between stillness and intensity. The contrast between the composed figure and the energy of the surrounding surface creates a sense of tension without disturbing the calm at its centre.
The hand painted frame forms part of the artwork itself, extending the colour, texture and marks beyond the central image.
