This original work explores John Lennon as both a cultural icon and a symbol of imagination, individuality and peace. Rather than simply recreating a familiar portrait, Ben builds the image through layers of colour, texture, handwritten words and expressive mark-making, allowing fragments of Lennon’s public identity and ideas to emerge through the surface.
 
Painted across both the panel and its frame, the work becomes a single continuous piece, with the frame forming part of the composition rather than simply surrounding it.
Bold colour, raw brushwork and layered detail give the painting a strong physical presence, while references to peace, dreaming and imagination connect the portrait to the ideas that continue to define Lennon’s cultural legacy.
