Rather than polishing every area to the same degree, the portrait moves between closely observed detail and more instinctive mark making, giving the work an immediate quality and a sense of the hand behind it.
 
Presented in a deep black frame, the natural edges of the paper remain visible, emphasising the piece as an original work on paper.
