Marilyn Monroe is an original Marilyn Monroe painting by Ben Goymour, created in expressive mixed media on paper.
 
Ben builds the portrait through layers of drawing, ink, paint, washes and gestural mark making. Predominantly monochrome, the work is interrupted by vivid pink and deep red, drawing attention to Marilyn’s face while allowing the surrounding marks to remain loose, raw and energetic.
 
Rather than creating a polished reproduction of a familiar image, Ben leaves the process exposed. Fine lines, washes, splashes and broad areas of paint sit alongside more closely observed detail, creating a portrait that moves between recognition and abstraction.
The work is presented in a deep black frame, allowing the irregular edges of the paper and the physical surface of the original artwork to remain visible.
