Borrowed Earth – Original Mixed Media Painting
 
Borrowed Earth is an original Native American painting by Ben Goymour exploring heritage, ancestry and our relationship with the generations that come before and after us.
 
Built through expressive layers of paint, texture, handwritten words and gestural mark making, the portrait has a strong physical presence. Colour moves across the face, ceremonial headdress and surrounding surface, shifting between carefully observed detail and looser, instinctive passages of paint.
 
Words embedded within the work introduce ideas of inheritance, responsibility and connection to the natural world, adding another layer to the portrait without defining a single interpretation.
 
The hand painted frame forms part of the artwork itself, allowing the colour, texture and movement of the painting to continue beyond the central image.
